REPAIRS |

SORRY, ONLY REPAIRS TO BOSS AND IBANEZ PEDALS UNDERTAKEN AS OF AUG 2010 We can also install any mod kits as purchased elsewhere (eBay etc). If a pedal is declared faulty to us before sending then we will examine the pedal and after detailed component checking we will quote on repair costs, we charge a flat rate of only £6.50 for the inspection, typical repair costs are in the region of £20 for a repair taking 2 hours to diagnose and fix, but no work will be undertaken without the owners consent. Some repairs take considerable longer but in these cases we will try and agree on a flat rate repair and fit the job in around other mods to keep the cost as low as possible. After the repair we could then perform a mod however please bear in mind that we prefer a minimum 4 day testing 'burn in' period after the repair before performing a mod, we cant rush this process! If we cant fix it (never happened yet!), or if we find that there is actually no problem - for example its just a 'user error', then the only thing you pay is the £6.50 inspection plus return delivery. In the rare event of obvious user error we would still open and test the pedal in depth to establish that this is definitely the case, hence the charge. Just bought a mod kit and suddenly realised that its not going to be as easy as you first hoped? Stop and think about the damage you could do to those delicate tracks when trying to lift the bent component legs away! We can fit your mod kits for you, cost is approx £20 depending on pedal type.
Examples of a few recent repairs include: Proco Rat that randomly switches off and generates line noise, DD-3 blown up by incorrect power adapter, TS-9 with intermittent output (cracked PCB), MT-2 that switched off at random (faulty FET switching), DS-1 DOA, DS-1 no LED illumination, CS-2 that had been 'modded badly' by previous owner and distorted, Lovetone Ring Mod with faulty rotary switch and poor internal wiring.
Above: Toadworks Death Rattle recently sent in for repair, total cost was under £25, and that included all new metal film caps, new opamp, transistors and all wiring to the pots and power jack replaced with multi-strand wire as the original was breaking up ! (Pic taken before repair) Below: A vintage Japanese 'Echoman' analogue echo unit, this came in to have a custom footswitch made, and as the unit was somewhat noisy, a 'hi-fi' upgrade, pleased to say this was a remarkable success with a good reduction in unwanted hiss.
Check out these treats below! What looked like a nice DOD JYM308 turned out to be a box of horrors, Left pic shows a replacement pot, fair enough but notice the rust behind the solder tabs.. someone used flux and didn't wash it off, now its corroding the internals, middle pic - whoops, someone burned the track away whilst replacing the pot, lots of solder splashed all over the place, and finally, the pic on the right, look inside the power jack.. you can just about see the green, yep - flux has corroded the copper contacts, not long to live, but what the hells that, look behind the power jack, the blue output jack has sheared away exposing the internal contacts, why? Because someone fitted a new stomp switch that was so big the jack wouldn't line up properly with the case, an LED has been fitted but the wires connecting it to the power are bare and shorting out against the case! Luckily this ones in for a full service, 1st thing to do is the crap power jack, a nice standard Boss type is fitted. The stomp switch is replaced with a 3PDT for true bypass, the opamp ditched and input cap changed, most wires replaced, all bare wires are insulated with polyolefin, all parts de-fluxed with a industrial grade de-flux solvent, excess solder removed and PCB re-lacquered, not bad for £25!
Below: Guyatone phaser which needed new DC jack, stomp switch and in/out sockets.
Old MXR Micro amp, needed new stomp switch, LED fitting, DC jack and internal component swap to hi-fi specs
